Kerala PSC accepts degree certificates earned through Online/distance education mode. There are many Government orders that bind UPSC and State PSCs to accept Online/distance mode degree certificates. However, Kerala PSC accepts degree certificate obtained through the Online/distance mode of education from UGC approved Universities only. Bharathiar University is a UGC approved University.

The distance education courses that are recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC) and UGC are valid for PhD admission in India. The students passed post-graduation courses like MA, MBA, MSW, MCA, MSc, M Com, and other PG Programs through Online/distance learning from Madurai Kamraj University, IGNOU, Annamalai, Calicut University, Bharathiar University etc. are eligible to pursue PhD programs.

Secondary/ Senior secondary certificates issued by National Institute of Open Schooling is equivalent to the certificate to issued by the Secondary/ Higher secondary boards of state of Kerala. (As per the GO (Rt) No. 1768/2011/G. Edn.)
